Description

La Alegoria de la Redencion, one of the most curious subjects in retablo art, is as the name implies, layered with allegoric and symbolic imagery throughout. In the lower quadrant a small vignette with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is flanked by a dozen ‘anima solas’ in the flames of purgatory. In the upper quadrant, Christ is surrounded by the symbols of the passion, the sun, the moon and The Eternal Father above.

Attributed to the ‘Halloween’ painter. His unique painterly style and brilliant use of color is unmistakable.
